Papa Science

Terms of Use

Last updated 5 September 2026 · Version 2026-09-05

Draft — revised after legal review on 5 September 2026 and awaiting final sign-off. It describes what Papa Science actually does today, but it has not yet been approved by a qualified reviewer.

These terms cover using Papa Science. The agreement is between us and the account holder — the parent or guardian who creates the account. You agree to them for yourself, and you are responsible for supervising the children who use the account. The children are not parties to this agreement and are not asked to agree to anything.

How you accept these terms

You accept them by ticking the box at sign-up, next to the buttons that create the account. The box says you are the parent or carer of the child you are about to add, and that you have read these terms and the Privacy Policy.

We record which version you accepted and when. The current version is the one shown at the top of this page.

What Papa Science is

A practice tool for primary-school science: short lessons, interactive activities, quizzes and timed practice papers, aimed at students preparing for ICAS Science.

What Papa Science is not

ICAS is a trademark of Janison Solutions Pty Ltd; Papa Science is not affiliated with or endorsed by ICAS. We do not administer the real exam or have any part in marking it. “ICAS” is used only to describe what our practice material prepares for.

Our readiness estimate is an estimate. ICAS is marked against the cohort who sat it that year, and the cut-offs are not published. What we show is a model built from performance in our own app. It is a rough guide for deciding what to practise next — not a prediction, not a guarantee, and not a substitute for the real result.

We do not promise any particular outcome in the real exam. A child’s result depends on the day, the paper, and a great deal we cannot see.

Accounts

A parent or carer creates the account and is responsible for it, including keeping the password private and deciding which children use it. Children are expected to use it with a grown-up’s knowledge.

Access is currently granted by approval rather than automatically — you register, and we enable the account. We may decline or withdraw access, and if we withdraw it from an active account we will tell you why.

Using it fairly

Please do not:

  • Share one account across households, or resell access.
  • Copy our questions, lessons or artwork for use elsewhere.
  • Attempt to break, overload or probe the service, or reach data that is not yours.

Who owns what

The lessons, questions, illustrations and software are ours. Your family’s answers, notes and progress are yours — we hold them to run the service, as described in our Privacy Policy.

Our practice questions are written in the style of past ICAS papers and are our own work.

What your family writes

The notes a child types into a lesson belong to your family, not to us. We store them so the app can show them back, we do not publish them or use them for anything else, and they are deleted with the account. Two requests in return: keep other people’s personal information out of them — no other children’s names, no addresses, no contact details — and do not use them to store anything you would mind us seeing while fixing a fault.

Cost

Papa Science is free while it is in early access. We do not ask for card details and there is nothing in the product that can charge you. No money changes hands in either direction.

We expect to charge for it eventually. If and when that happens we will publish the price and the billing terms here first, and tell existing families by email before anything is charged — you will never be moved onto a paid plan without being asked. Access you already have will not be switched off without notice.

Availability

We are a small operation. We aim to keep the service running and the content accurate, but we cannot promise it will always be available or entirely free of mistakes. If you find an error in a question or a lesson, please tell us — there is a report link on every page, and we do read them.

Changing these terms

We may change these terms — the product changes, and the terms have to keep up. If a change is material we will email the account holder at least 14 days before it takes effect, and ask you to accept the new version at your next sign-in. Minor corrections are published here with a new version date.

Founder to confirm the notice period before this goes live — 14 days is our proposal. Once published it is a promise we have to keep, including on a change we would rather make quickly.

If you do not want to accept a change, you can stop using Papa Science and ask us to delete your family’s data. That is always an option, not a penalty.

Ending it

You can stop using Papa Science whenever you like, for any reason or none, and ask us to delete your household’s data — see the Privacy Policy for how. We do it within 30 days and confirm when it is done.

We may close or suspend an account that breaches these terms, and we will tell an active account why. If we ever withdraw a service you are paying for, you may end the agreement and we will refund the unused part of what you have paid, worked out pro-rata — and the same applies if you choose to leave a paid plan part-way through a period. While the service is free there is nothing to refund.

Liability

Nothing here limits rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law, which cannot be excluded. Beyond those rights, our liability is limited to resupplying the service or the cost of doing so.

Legal review needed here in particular.Liability wording interacts with the Australian Consumer Law in ways that deserve a lawyer’s eye rather than a sensible-sounding paragraph.

If we disagree

Talk to us first. Email xpandservices@proton.me and set out what the problem is and what you want done — most things can be sorted out in a couple of emails.

If that does not settle it, both of us agree to try mediation before going to court: a mediator we both accept, each side paying its own share. Nothing in this stops either of us from going straight to a court or a regulator where the matter is urgent or the law gives you that right — a privacy complaint to the OAIC, for example, or anything under the Australian Consumer Law.

The rest of the small print

  • If one part fails, the rest stands. If a court decides some part of these terms cannot be enforced, that part is cut out and everything else keeps working.
  • Transferring the agreement. If Papa Science is sold or otherwise transferred to someone else, this agreement can move with it — we will tell you before that happens, and you can leave and ask for deletion if you would rather not continue. You cannot transfer your account to another household.
  • This is the whole agreement. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between us. Anything said in an email, a demo or a chat does not change them.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia.
